He will not quit until the sovereignty of His word is made manifest on our hearts overcoming every obstacle and objection our paltry intellects conceive and darkened emotions vomit out. We may have given up on ourselves but there is a continuance of the divine word coming to us and being present to us for us to receive. He has committed Himself resolutely to this end. There is a remarkable tenacity and unyielding persistence in the heart of God. The phrase “I will” is a very intense and powerful phrase when we understand who is speaking and how much power is at His disposal. When He says "I will" (not keep silent) He is expressing the divine intention. It is the word by which our hearts comes alive and it is not far off (Deuteronomy 30:12) This word is always present for us to receive, to cherish, to draw life from. If this was true of the people of Israel as Moses first spoke these words to them in Deuteronomy, how much more true is it of those of whom the Spirit of God, indeed the Trinity himself has taken up residence within?Īs believers, we possess the word of life (John 6:68), Jesus Himself (1 John 1:1), living inside of us. “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down), or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).” But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, in your mouth and in your heart”(Romans 10:5-6). We are always present to this life-giving word. The same force which brought forth all existence is ever seeking entrance to bring light to our hearts (cf. The voice that speaks and dead men rise, that which resounds and souls have life. By it He creates substance out of nothing, order out of chaos, beauty out of brokenness and immortality out of those condemned to die. It is the primary vehicle through which the creativity of God manifests itself. By it all that is exists (John 1:3) and by it all that exists is upheld (Hebrews 1:3). The Word of God is not neutral but is a creative life-force. Sharing His heart with us at the heart of His purpose, plan and mission. This name tells us many things about Him, but one of them is that communication and conversation is part of His essence. In John 1:1, Jesus himself is called the Word. He never stops speaking the loving word that lifts our hearts and lives out of our self-induced hell and into the abundant life of the age to come. His healing word does not avoid the chaos of our inner lives or the moral abominations of an entire nation – rather it comes directly to us, indeed for us – for our sake. In the midst of our (and Zion’s) self-created mess and seemingly unending brokenness Jesus is ever speaking the solution. He is deeply committed to His people hearing what He will say. Essentially, He is going to give Himself to unrelenting speech, for the sake of the people of God, because He loves us. For Zion's sake I will not keep silent."Īfter Jesus demonstrates the sincerity of His good intention for Zion (as well as for us), His delight to do good to her and His dedication in keeping true to His covenant despite her wanderings, He declares specifically what exactly He is going to do for their benefit.
